Overview

Each Use Case provides unique insight into optimization of resources. Resources can participate in multiple use cases. Not all use cases are implemented on each resource type, to get complete list of use cases that are implemented for specific resource type, please see resource types.

About false positives

Even when we have high quality results, there will be false-positives. We recommend double-checking before taking an action against identified resources by some of our use cases.

Rating of use cases from lowest to highest number of false positives:

1. Manually Marked ~ 100% confidence, no false positives
2. Unused Resources + Modernizer ~ 90% initial confidence, ~ 97% with long term confirmation, very low number of false positives long term
3. Over-provisioned Resources ~ 75% initial confidence, ~ 90% with long term confirmation, long term low amount of false positives

Initial confidence means when the resource shows up in the scan report for the first time. Long term confirmation means if the resource keeps showing as identified by the use case for X number of days. Generally, we can say, if the resource shows as Unused for 180 days in row, there is 97% chance that its unused and can be safely deleted. 180 days is not a magic number, but it’s a good starting point.
